Report
And so another summer league season kicked off at Dulwich Park with a great morning and lots of fun had by all I think its fair to say.
We had a really good turn out of nearly 20 serpies who all took part in the 10K. The woman set the tone for the season taking the first four places- Valerie Metcalfe, Karen Hancock, Sarah Newton and Penny Thorn storming in. Eoin O'Colgain and Andy Davies were 2nd and 3rd in the mens race, a really great start.
Rory MacFarlane was the only serpie in the tenderfoot race and had a great run, coming in second just milliseconds behind the winner. A quick coaching session from mum should redress that for the next race!!
And then the infamous relays. Again, everyone was really enthusiastic about doing them which was great- we managed to get a womens and mens team and were just short of enough for a further team- maybe next time. The relays were fiercly fought, each club trying to outcheer the other. The women came second and the men fourth (ok, it was out of 4, but the enthusiam was just the same).
The trophies for last year were given out- Keith Evans, Tony Leppard, Sarah Newton, Rory Macfarlane, Alex Slade and Ellen Hindley all won trophies for their age categories. so if you come along regularly, you too might be the proud owner of a superkitsch blue trophy.
Everyone said how much they'd enjoyed the morning, it was great fun, low key but with the running being taken seriously, as you wished.
The next race is 3rd July at Metros in Harrow. This is always renowned as a hot day so come along and give it a try. All standards welcome, just come with your Serpie shirt and
