About Serpentine Running Club

Serpentine is possibly the largest running and triathlon club in Britain. We have 2391 members of whom 44% are women. We have a wide variation of ages: many young people, and also a high proportion of veterans (known in America as masters). A more detailed breakdown of the membership is available here. However, although we are large, we like to think we retain a friendly, small club atmosphere and always welcome newcomers.Serpie teams at the Green Belt Relay

Our roots were in road running but these days our members take part in all sorts of sporting activities loosely related to running. We have club runs on Saturday mornings, and Wednesday evenings; track sessions on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings; long runs on Sunday mornings; hill sessions on Saturday mornings; cycle rides most weekends; swim training on various weekday evenings; and a selection of other training activities such as spin classes and core-stability classes. Nobody goes to all these sessions every week, but quite a few of us make it to a few. Wednesday night is our busiest run, with several hundred participants at peak times of the year, leading up to marathons. You are welcome to run with us once or twice on our Wednesday or Saturday sessions, even if you are not a member: why not come along and then decide if you want to join?

We compete in road races all year round. In the winter we also do cross country, taking part in Saturday and Sunday leagues, as well as in County and National Championships.

In summer, we have men's track & field teams in the Southern men's league; and both men and women take part in a vets track & field league and the Rosenheim league on weekday evenings. We are also in a Sunday morning road race league, which has a strong family focus; and the Assembly league – a series of short races on Thursday evenings. The other major focus in summer of course is, of course, triathlons and duathlons. In fact several hundred club members only ever compete in multi-sport. We have several members who have competed at international level for England and other nations.

Because of our central London location, we welcome many members from overseas. We are very sociable, and many of our training sessions and other events end up in the pub.
