Mertopolitan Cross Country League: Sat, 13 Feb - Perivale
The final fixture in this season’s Metropolitan League is on Saturday, 13 February. The Race Headquarters is the Perivale Community Centre, Horsenden Lane South. There are changing facilities, showers, toilets and refreshments. It’s a 10 minute walk from the race HQ to the start.
The programme begins with the young athletes races at 1.15pm.
The women’s 6km race will start at 1.55pm.
The men’s 5-mile race will start at 2.30pm.
Please arrive at least 30 minutes before the start of your race.
The course is on grass and is modestly undulating but not hilly, despite the name of the venue! Spikes or studs are suitable shoes. Race numbers to be collected on the day from the Serpentine team managers, either at the Community Centre or at the start. You will need to run in a Serpentine top.
Travel: the nearest tube is Perivale on the Central Line. Turn right on leaving the station into Horsenden Lane South. The station is 300m from the Perivale Community Centre.
By road from Central London, use the A40. Go under the Hanger Lane Underpass. 800m after this take the slip road on your left. It is opposite the old Hoover Building, now a large Tesco supermarket. At the first set of traffic lights at the end of the slip road, turn right to pass over the A40, then right again into Teinmouth Gardens. At the next set of lights turn left into Horsenden Lane South. There is no parking at the Community Centre. Please leave plenty of travelling time as the A40 is very busy throughout the day.

Spring Marathon Training Seminar 2010
Over 40 Serpies attended the Spring Marathon Training Seminar held at the Civil Services Sports Club in Westminster on February 1st 2010 to glean what hints, tips and motivation they could from fellow members and coaches.
UKA Level 2 coaches Andrew Reeves and John Cullinane presented their personal experiences and technical training advice in a two and a half hour session.
Thanks to Jen Marzullo and Malcolm French for organising.
The presentation given at the seminar is available at the link below.

2.00pm: Women 35+ and Men 70+, 6km.

An undulating course, partly on grass but with a wooded section. Spikes or other suitable off-road shoes will be essential.

Sunday Cross Country League: Sunday, 21 February - Watford
The final Sunday League race is on 21 Febuary and it is a good event for cross-country newcomers. The run will start in Cassiobury Park, Watford, Herts near the Langley Way entrance.
The race starts at 11.00am. It will be a combined race with men and women starting together and running 5 miles.
The course will include parkland and woods. It is undulating with some sharp but short hills. There are some stony tracks and a short tarmac path where you cross a canal bridge (twice). Studs are the idea shoes to run in. People without specialist shoes can usually run in ordinary trainers.
The Race HQ will be the Sun Postal Sports Club, Bellmount Wood Avenue. There are changing facilities here but it is unlikely that the showers will be available. I advise you to come already changed and ready to run. Post race refreshments will be available. It’s a 5 minute walk from the Race HQ to the start.
No need for pre-entry. Just come along on the day and enjoy your run, but please wear a Serpie top.
Travel: by car - you’ll find ample street parking close to the park. However, there’s no parking actually at the Sports Club.
By train - Main Line trains run from Euston to Watford Junction and it’s about 25 minutes walk from the station to the Race HQ.
By tube – Watford on the Metropolitan Line is the closest tube station. It’s about 20 minutes walk across Cassiobury Park to the Race HQ.
