Race conditions

The weather varied between showers, sunshine and cloud. It was cool (around 17 degrees) with 30kph winds. The water was cold (13 degrees).

My first standard distance triathlon took place in the south of France. The swim was one loop in Lake Cavayère with the bike ride one loop around the surrounding mountains with lots of climbing and descending - hard to admire the stunning scenery. The run was a loop around the lake, also with lots of up and down. There were only 86 participants of whom 85 finished and the event, which is a qualifier for the French National Championships, was run against the clock with two going every 30 seconds, thus avoiding the usual elbows in the water. It was superbly organised and great value at £20 including a prezzie (wheel cover).
