Report

A good reason to run the Koper 10k is the gorgeous Istrian coast which stretches from Trieste in Italy down to Pula in Croatia.

The good points about the race; The organisation was flawless, late entries are possible if you write directly to the organisers (who responded promptly in English); excellent crowd atmosphere at the start and finish, a last 700 metres on the water’s edge with beautiful views, and a nice post-race communal lunch on the dockside where you can unwind, swap stories with locals and relax with live music. Do take an extra day or two to visit the stunning village of Piran, 20 minutes further down the coast with Venetian and Hapsburg influences with a wealth built on the salt industry.

The only frustrating thing about the race was that the course was not AIMS measured and in fact advertised at 9700 metres and therefore not really a full 10k . The organisers have promised to make the route even better and a full 10k next year. Expect olive groves, a few more inclines (the current route was pan flat and good PB potential), and of course that fabulous last half mile finish. The half marathon and marathon ARE the correct full distances, so it may be better to enter one of those if the 10k isn’t properly measured again next year. All-in-all though the race exceeded expectations and the trip was a fun and culturally interesting 48 hours on the Slovenian coast
