Report

The NN (Nationale Nederlanden Insurance) CPC (city – pier – city) is a very popular Spring race with about 6200 runners (55% male/45% female), of which 99% are Dutch. There is also a Half Marathon which does reach the seaside, which the 10k does not. Organisation is flawless and for fast runners there is a very handy pen right at the front. Huge basic tented changing rooms with benches were a welcome relief from the cold wind outside. For non-Dutch runners bibs can be collected on the day. The standard is not as high as say a Vitality 10000 or Hamburg Alsterlauf, but there were still two finishers at a few seconds over 30 minutes (both Danish). The course is well marshalled and follows a route through the embassy district and nice neighbourhoods of The Hague. The home stretch of 2 km should usually be prevailing wind behind but gruellingly the wind was against this time. Altogether a well run race but not a ‘must-do’. The weather in the Netherlands at this time of year can also be unpredictable, cold, rainy and windy (last year’s event was cancelled due to 100 km/h winds!).
