Report
A real ‘citizens’ race, this feels almost like an athletics gathering despite the almost 8000 participants in the half marathon (and apparently another 4000 in the full). The course is fast and flat, a straight out and back along Osaka’s main river Yodo. Some things I liked about the race, although it’s not particularly scenic; steaming hot bowl of broth with onions, beef and potatoes after the finish line ! No medal, just a neat little certificate which is printed out a short while after you finish- they point a barcode reading gun at your bib number and a printer whirs into action. No music or overwhelming noise at the start, just Japanese orderliness and politeness. Kodo drummers at 10k!
The starting gun/ signal was a firework fired off.
Very hot conditions - I got sunburned in my Serpie top which I hadn’t expected. And wind against for the return 10.5k, so a tough last 45 minutes.
