This was my first Standard Distance duathlon, I have targeted 4 of them this year. I was looking forward to this one, as the cycle portion looked (on the map) to be 6 laps of a short (6.5km) punchy circuit. I wasn’t disappointed. The run segment was rather flat, and picturesque, as it ran down one side of the river, crosses it, and runs back down the other side. The ride circuit was on closed roads, and they were wide; allowing for fast flowing corners and each lap had only 3 tight corners. Slightly exposed, so the winds played a factor, but being a circuit, it was neutralised: headwind one way, tail wind on the way back.
