Cross Country Season 2023-24 – First Races in October

Hello Serpies – As autumn comes we are turning our attention to the Cross Country Season. Serpentine RC takes part in two different leagues and many other championship races. Whether you are a championship-racer hoping to run fast times, or you’re a first-timer just wishing to get round, everyone is welcome and there’s a race for everybody. Also, the Club pays for your entries, so it is free for club members to enter!

London Champs – November 2022 at Hampstead Heath

 

October Races

The races in October are:

  • Met League (Race 1): Saturday 14th October (junior am, senior pm) – Claybury Park (hosted by Woodford Green and Esses Ladies). Distance: 8km. Prior entry is not strictly required and you can turn up on the day, but please email our Met League rep Darren Over if you’re considering coming, so we can get you registered before to reduce the admin required afterwards. You only need to register once per season – keep your race number for future Met League races in the 23-24 season. You will also need to have registered with England Athletics (see below).
  • Sunday League (Race 1): Sunday 15th October (am) – Cheshunt Park. Just like the Met League, prior entry is not required and you can turn up on the day.  Any question, please contact our Sunday League rep Chris Notton.
  • SEAA Cross Country Relay ChampsSaturday 21st October – Wormwood Scrubs.
  • North London Cross Country Championship: Saturday 28th October – Hackney Marsh. You need to enter the race in advance. If you are interested in entering, please email Sophie Flanagan.
  • Sunday League (Race 2): Sunday 29th October (am) – Watford.

 

England Athletic Registration

Please note that for the Met League and the Championship races, you are required to be registered with England Athletics. Please check Serpiebase to see if you have bought or renewed your licence for 2023-24.

 

 

Can’t run this month, but want to run in November onwards?

The remainder of the Metropolitan League races are:

 

  • Saturday 11th November 2023 – Wormwood Scrubs (Hosted by Thames Valley Harriers)
  • Saturday 2nd December 2023 – Uxbridge (Hosted by Hillingdon)
  • Saturday 13th January 2024 – Welwyn Garden City (Hosted by Herts Phoenix)
  • Saturday 10th February 2024 – Trent Park (Hosted by Barnet & District and Trent Park RC)

 

Generally all races start at the following times: from 12:00 onwards there are different junior races; senior women at around 13:00 and senior men later at 13:45. Any queries – please contact Darren.

 

You can also run these Sunday League races:

 

  • Sunday 5th November 2023 - Trent Park
  • Sunday 17th December 2023 – Stevenage
  • Sunday 18th February 2024 – Royston

 

Sunday League races will be held in the morning. Please contact our Sunday League rep Chris Notton for more information.

 

Finally there will be these Championship races:

  • Saturday 4th November 2023 – North of the Thames Champs and Liddiard Cup (Location: Fryent Country Park)
  • Saturday 18th November 2023 - London Cross Country Championships (Location: Parliament Hill, Hampstead Heath) - Note: we need marshals for this event, please look out for future emails regarding how to volunteer.
  • Saturday 25th November 2023 - The Fraternity & Sorority Cup (Location: Trent Park, Cockfosters)
  • Saturday 9th December 2023 - Southern Cross Country Masters Championships (Location: Oxford)
  • Saturday 6th January 2024 - Middlesex County Championships (Location: Perivale, Horsenden Hill)
  • Saturday 27th January 2024 – Southern Counties Main Championships (Location: Beckenham Place Park)
  • Saturday 24th February 2022 – English National Championships (Location: Weston-under-Lizard, Staffordshire)

 

Please note that all championship races require advanced entry, also the club will pay for the entries, so please enter only if you’re sure you will be racing. To enter, please email Sophie Flanagan.

 

Finally, please come along to the club social on Wednesday night 27th September from about 20:00 after our Wednesday runs at the Seymour Centre Club Room, we will be talking about the upcoming Cross Country races – please ask then if you have any questions.
