Club Championship 3k (15 Aug 2001)

40 Serpies turned up for this race on a very hot evening. Men\'s and women\'s winners were, you guessed, Karim Chebouki and Elinor Rest! Karim and Elinor also swept up the Grand Prix Trophies, covering the 1K, 1M and 3K, with 300% scores each.

Second and third men in the 3K were Ben Paviour and John Dickson. Sarah Newton and Annie Kane filled these slots for the women.

However, once again, it\'s Anthony Stranger Jones who wins the overall Age-Graded Championship with a performance of 82.65%. Elinor and Karim were both over 80%, with Pauline Rich, Sarah Newton and Bob Davidson getting close.

Congratulations, all!

As John Walker said at the time, the Grand Prix Series has been going for many years, but its future needs now to be reviewed in the context of more races, and the importance we now attach to the relative quality of performance. The Committee will do this over the next few months, and will publish the outcome in due course.

Apologies to new members Eddie Geh and Sam McCormick, recording times of 12.03 and 14.04 respectively: your details have not yet found their way onto my database, but I\'ll slot you into the overall table as soon as I get them.

Club Championship 3k (27 Jul 2004)

This evening we ran the 3k club championship race in Battersea park. 64 runners were measuring their performance against their friends, their own expectations and against the watch.

Once again the men's race was won by Andy Reeves in front of Ian Druce. Andy out-sprinted Ian in 9.41, finishing just 3 seconds in front of him. Comparing to the 1 mile Ian is closing in and the 10k will be interesting. John Fairs came third in 9.54 and Andy Davies also finished in under 10 minutes, equalling his PB of 9.58.

The women's race was won by Barbara Yff who finished 8th overall in 10.10. Jenny Gowans was out-sprinting Sadaf Awan for second place, both finishing in 11.24.

In the age-graded championship Barbara won with 81.6%. Eddie Brocklesby also scored over 80% with a score of 81.1%.

Rachel Broster and Phil Harris presented the winners with their shields and trophies.

Andy Davies defended his lead in the overall club championship table and Ian Druce took the second spot. Paul Fromme is holding on to the third spot.

A big thank you to all the helpers today.

Club Championship 3k (26 Jul 2005)

Congratulations to all 65 runners who finished today's 3k club championship race. This is one more than last year. The course was a lovely flat, fast course in Battersea park which produced some fast times.

Congratulations to Massimiliano Monteforte who won the race in 9:10 in front of early leader Ben Paviour and Ian Druce.
Congratulations again to Emma Calderbank for winning the ladies race in 10:17 in front of Valerie Metcalf and Sarah Newton.
Massimiliano also took the age-graded title with 81.6% with Emma and Ben also scoring over 80%.

In the overall championship table Andy Reeves stayed in the lead in front of Sarah Newton and Frank Markey, however Andy Davies and Valerie Metcalf will try to pinch a podium spot at the mile race next week.

But there were many more impressive results, for example Miguel Branco beating 10 minutes for the first time, John Tilsley beating Justin Lock again, Jo Conn and Rachel Whittaker running close to 12 minutes and many more.

Thank you very much to all the helpers, David Knight for registration, results and pictures, John Walker for time keeping, Bev Thomas, Megan Torkington, Rachel Powell and Jeni Vlahovic for number taking, Narissa Wild for providing first aid cover, Dominique Toennes for looking after the bags and Mike spray, Huw Keene, Nia Parry, Gowan Clews, Helen Morgan, Lisa Petit and the ones who's names I forgot (sorry) for marshalling. Without you this race couldn't have taken place.
