Leicester Half Marathon (16 Nov 2003)

The full marathon attracts about 200 entries and the half marathon has about
550. The race starts and finishes in Mallory Park, a motor racing circuit -
the first mile is a lap of the circuit and the finish is a couple of hundred
yards downhill along the circuit - great for fast finishes! The course
itself is mainly on roads, the majority of which run through beautiful
undulating countryside connecting a number of small villages. The only
significant uphill section came at around 9 miles. The last few miles are
off road, on paved paths. We had great weather - it was a clear sunny day
and the organisers did a great job controlling the traffic (I hardly noticed
any cars). Drinks stations were well managed and provided sports drinks as
well as water. The only downside was there was no secure area to leave bags
so you either need supporters or your own car. Report by Julie Cameron-Doe
