Tour de Serpiesphere – Stage 2 (10k) Results and Stage 3 (5k) Entry

Hello Serpies,

The Tour de Serphiesphere is well underway and we've got over 11 miles under our belt. If you sometimes picture yourself running along the London Marathon route you'd have just gone past Rotherhithe station and heading towards Tower Bridge. It's been another bumper stage some great performances and some new runners joining the fun. Just a reminder, if you didn't run stage 1 but still want to join the fun as a late entrant, just email Frank your 5 mile time.

What went down on Stage 2

We had a total of 79 runners upload a time for stage 2 which is another splendid turnout. Welcome to new entrants Maureen Seguin, Karen Hancock, Naadira Ogeer and Tom Witherow. With 3 weeks to complete the stage, people ran in all sorts of conditions from snow in the first half to a proper early spring day if you managed to get out on the 27th . Gloria Beyer definitely picked a nice day to head out and passed along this shot from the Oostanaula River Heritage Trail in Rome, Georgia, USA.

Once again, she wasn't the only far-flung Serpie with Willem Gerritsen in Utrecht, Ian Johnson in Budapest and Maureen Seguin running perfect right angles in Canada, to name just a few.

After two stages the Tour de Serphiesphere remains something for all ages, once again our entries ranged from U13s (Sam and Pip Jones) to Iron-Gran Eddie Brocklesby in the over-75s category.

Stage Winners

Congratulations to the winners of Stage 1:

  • Kit Grierson saw off an early challenge from Dani De Palol to record his second stage win with a time of 34:02
  • Rhea Colvin took the honours in the women's race, clocking in at 41:51.

Full results here: https://www.serpentine.org.uk/rdb/showrace.php?race=13546.

If you're wondering what happened to the spot prize, given that we're close to being able to meet in person again soon, we thought it might be better to wait to find out who wins the £20 Start Fitness voucher until we can meet again instead of drawing it in secret.

The GC and the jerseys

With stage 2 in the books, let's look at the overall standings.  We've got a new leader in the women's event as Rhea Colvin has taken over top spot. In the men's Kit Grierson maintained his lead but Dani De Palol and Christopher Tsantoulas are both still within striking distance. But as you know, it's not necessarily the fastest runners who will claim the coveted crown at the end but those with the biggest improvement relative to their marathon PB. Please see the GC table via this link:

It is likely that we haven’t got everyone’s marathon PB correctly (for example if it is not on Power of 10 or Serpiebase, we wouldn’t know), or in some cases it is missing.  For any addition or amendment on your marathon PB, please let Malcolm know.

Stage 3 – 5km (from now until 15th Mar)

Stage 3 is already underway and as it is running in parallel with the Serpiesphere Virtual 5k handicap, you only have to run the distance once for it to be entered into both events. Well done to more than a dozen of us who have already entered Stage 3.  Race cut off is on Monday 15th March at 22:00 (UK time).  In a similar way as the previous stages:

Email Hans if you have any queries.

Good luck on Stage 3!
