Final SAL of 2016 - help us get promoted!
Serpentine are hosting the final event of the Southern Athletics League at Battersea track on Saturday 20 August, and the chance of promotion to Division 2 is in sight.
We need volunteers and officials to make sure the meeting runs smoothly, competitors for all events to make sure we get as many points as possible, and cake bakers and sandwich makers to welcome the visiting clubs. With the possibility of promotion, this is the perfect opportunity to celebrate the contribution made by all our officials, volunteers and athletes this season, so we would love to see as many Serpies as possible down at the track.
Our team have done remarkably well this year and we are currently sitting in third place in the league (full details on the SAL website). A win in our last match will likely mean second place and direct promotion to Div 2, which would be great. We are seeking any contributions to make this happen, so get in contact if you would like to help.
Help is needed with
We need a couple of people to do results.
This involves copying names, clubs, times, distances etc. from the results cards into a spreadsheet. A laptop will be provided.
- Field event duties
We need a couple of people to help our field judges, plus we need more qualified field judges.
This involves retrieving implements, helping to measure throw and jump distances, etc.
We need someone to take down the names of non-scoring athletes and give them their numbers.
We need everyone to bring something to share with competitors from all the SAL clubs.
With the Gondola cafe in the park closed and limited food options available nearby, if you can make a round of sandwiches or a tray of flapjacks, all contributions will be very welcome.
The first event is at midday, but we will need helpers to arrive between 11.15am and 11.45am. All events should be finished by 5pm, and will be followed by a trip to the pub. If track events are running to time and there is enough demand, we may also organise some fun Serpie relays at the end of the day.
Can we count on seeing you there?
If so, please contact Daisy Gladstone for volunteer roles, baking or general cheering squad. If you would like to do a specific role listed above, please let me know.
