Report
This race organised by Cosmic Hill Bashers at Rotten O’Gairn (near Aberdeen) was the second in the Krunce series of six covering a distance of 5.6k and a climb of 150m. Wasn’t sure what to expect with it being my first hill race but it wasn’t too bad – no worse than a tough cross country. The race was largely through woodland, well marked, with the requisite tree stumps around the place. There were a few narrow spots but largely people could overtake on the circular route (extra loop at the top). Going was generally good to firm but had some peaty boggy bits near the top – new trail shoes thoroughly Christened. Hectic downhill finish. Well organised by a friendly bunch. Orange squash at the end and the regulars go to a local pub (I’m sure visitors would be welcome!).
The car park wasn’t easy to find without a proper map/GPS but coming from the west, if you get to Countesswells forest you’ve gone too far. Park up and check their map!
