Report
50 mile loop around Rotherham, with mix of fairly scenic spells and some fairly grim industrial landscapes. Not especially hilly, but largely off-road and hence a fair amount of mud. On the day very cold and very wet (at least for some spells), meaning that bits of the course were extremely muddy. Navigation either by instructions or "Wainwright" strips. Fairly simple to follow.
Well supported and marshalled, divided into 8 stages with food and drink at each checkpoint. There is a relay option. Winning time for full race was 6 hrs 17 mins (over 1hr clear of second place!!). The winning team (3 to score) was 24 hrs 4 mins, with Serpie men in 3rd place at combined 26 hrs 3 mins. The winning relay team was 5 hrs 39 mins - or about 6 min 45 sec / mile. This should be doable for a good Serpie team, although the navigation could still be a problem.
Race is based in Swinton in South Yorks, a fairly manageable 2 hr 30 mins on train from Kings Cross.
