Wednesday Club Run (29th October 2025) – Returning to St Mary’s School

2025-02-05 Club Run

We are delighted to announce that from Wednesday 29th October 2025, we will return to St Mary’s Bryanston Square Primary School as our Wednesday Club Run HQ. This means we will have a more secure bag drop than our temporary arrangement at the Thornbury Castle, where we will continue to meet for our post-run social.

However, the arrangement will be different to how it had been before the flooding which caused a large part of the school out of operation. We will no longer use main school entrance and use the Art Room as the bag drop.  The arrangement will instead be as follows:

  • Entry: Members will enter the school at the side entrance on Enford Street, next to the Royal Oak Pub (which is currently out of action as well due to the same flood incident) at York Street.  If you came to the last Serpie Talks event on 10th October, you would know that entrance. There will be a volunteer to greet members and guest runners from 18:15 onwards. You should aim to arrive before 18:40.

  • Bag room: Members will then walk across the school yard until reaching the entrance of the school building itself. Another volunteer will show you where you can put down your bag. It will be in the ‘sensory room’ to the left immediately after entering the school building. Please use a bag or backpack for your belongings, rather than leaving loose items. This minimises the chance of belongings being misplaced and lost.

  • Changing and toilets: There are limited toilets and changing facilities available for members to use, therefore you are encouraged to come ‘run-ready’. Female changing will be available in a small area within the main assembly hall, likely to be sharing with the Koryo Taekwondo Academy.
  • Start of our run: We will continue to leave for running at 18:50 from the school building. There will be a volunteer to look after the entrance for a few more minutes, but after that the gate will be shut, so please try to be on time. As usual, you can also start running with us from Speakers’ Corner at 19:00 where we will do our normal announcement as well. Sid will be there to greet you as usual from 18:45 onwards.
  • Returning to the school: From 19:45 onwards a volunteer will be at the Enford Street gate to allow members back into the school premises. There will be a number for members to call before that, in case there isn’t anyone at the gate. Alternatively please message the Wed Runs WhatsApp group.
  • Collecting your bags: Please make sure you take all your belongings with you, as there is no storage area for us now and lost properties cannot be stored in the school. After about 20:15 (when Koryo Taekwondo finish their training) there may not be any changing facilities available anymore.
  • Exit: Please use the same entrance to exit the school premises.
  • Social events: Unfortunately, we will not be able to host our monthly post-run social in the school building until further notice. However, you’re invited to proceed to Thornbury Castle for our post-run social as usual.
  • Volunteers: As you can see from the above operation, we are relying on volunteers to make it work. We are grateful that Sammy Li will continue to support us on this in most weeks, however we will need one or two members who are taking a night off running to come to help us look after the bags and guard the school gate. Therefore, we would like to have more people to join our volunteers’ group. If you believe you would be able to help us from time to time (doesn’t need to be every week), please email us at Wednesday-runs@serpentine.org.uk or message in the Wed Runs WhatsApp group.

We would like to thank St Mary’s Bryanston Square Primary School for allowing us to return to the school premises despite the difficulties in the normal school operations; the Koryo Taekwondo Academy for accommodating our use; and finally Thornbury Castle for letting us use the pub as a bag drop in the past four weeks.

Any questions, please get in touch with us.

See you next Wednesday,

Hans Ho
