Race Marshalling
We need people to marshal at our regular club and open races, including Last Friday of the Month 5km, New Year’s Day 10km, club championship grand prix races, and more! Keep an eye on club emails for marshal requests or sign up on ‘My Events’ if you can help at any of these regular events.
You don’t need any experience to help out as a marshal, but make sure you turn up in plenty of time to get your instructions and get to your place on the course. If you do have experience we would love to hear from you as you may be able to help out at the finish, or with timekeeping, or marshal co-ordination.
In addition, during the track and field season, we require volunteers to help at the athletics events, assisting the qualified officials. Tasks may include retrieving thrown javelin, shotput or discus; raking the long jump sandpit; assisting with the time-keeping of the races.
Steps to qualify
If after a few events you decide you enjoy contributing as a marshall or assisting at events, you can apply to become a graded Endurance, Track or Field Official under the UK Athletics structure. For all technical officials, the club may pay for your training if you intend to marshall for the club (see expense policy for details).
