Track and Field Report 2025

On Wednesday, 24th Sep, we gathered after the club run to look back and celebrate our successes in this year’s track and field season.

In 2025, we had five teams compete in three different leagues. In the Rosenheim League, both the men’s and women’s teams reached the final, the joint team in the Southern Athletics League came third in our division, fighting off a strong challenge from Hillingdon. In the Vets league, both the men’s and women’s teams put up a strong fight, but both narrowly missed out on a place in the finals.

Every year, the club gives out awards to some of the many deserving athletes that make up our teams in those leagues, and here are this year’s winners:

Robin Kindersley Award (most deserving athlete in the men’s SAL/Rosenheim): Tom McKelvey

Tom has been a stalwart of the men’s teams for many years, and while he goes about his business quietly, his results speak loudly for themselves. Focusing mainly on the jumps and also often getting roped into the 4×100 relay. He still more than holds his own against competitors that are often more than half his age. 5.50m in the long jump and 10.14m in the triple jump speak for themselves.

Women’s Track and Field Award (most deserving athlete in the women’s SAL/Rosenheim): Sayana Lee

If you’ve been to a Rosenheim or SAL meet this summer, you’ve more than likely stumbled across a ball of energy running back and forth trying to find new events to participate in. Sayana’s enthusiasm to try all sorts of events was immensely valuable to the team captains, and her infectious energy lifted everyone else’s performances (there’s a reason she won ‘best supporter’ at the Summer Party). Her exploits peaked at the last SAL, where she competed in 10 events, including having a go at the pole vault, despite only starting practising 5 minutes before the event.

Derek Patterson Award (most deserving athlete in the men’s Vets): Dave Robinson

There are a few events where you don’t find Dave’s name in the results over the course of the season, and this year wasn’t any different. He’s competed in 13 events overall, the most of anyone in the men’s Vets team this season. And at no point did he give less than 110%.

Jan Farmer Award (most deserving athlete in the women’s Vets): Camilla Allwood

Camilla deserves this award not only for her contribution on the track and in the field, where she continues to strive to improve, even taking on additional coaching. But she’s also a great advocate for Track and Field, always spreading the word and trying to get new club members involved.

Tony McGahan Award (most valued contribution): Stephanie Vaatz

While many people deserve recognition for contributions large and small, without which none of what we do would be possible, Steph really stood out this year. Not only did she regularly compete in the SAL, scoring points in the throwing events and also taking on events such as the 400 hurdles and 1500m to score additional points for the team, she often did this while also being part of our team of field officials. Congratulations to the winners and thanks to everyone who came out to compete, officiate or support track and field in another capacity this year. If you want to find out more, you can reach out to the team captains, Frank Womelsdorf/Michelle Wong (SAL) or Catkin Shelley/Andrew Maynard (Vets).
