This is the 50k version of the main 50-mile race on the trails around the Marin Headlands, by San Francisco. The event is the final of a series of US races and the 50-mile has a $30,000 prize pot to attract the best ultra trail runners from around the world.

The 50k isn't as prestigious or competitive, but uses most of the same trails and still has an impressive 6,600ft of ascent and at least an extra mile above the advertised distance (that's before getting lost). Mud, wind and rain added to the challenge and made for a tough, but satisfying set of races for all concerned.
