Here's my hopefully not too biased race report from the La Santa Mini Tri written in the 3rd
person.
With almost perfect conditions for racing, warm 25 degree sun and a steady north easterly wind the
Serpentine La Santa mini tri took place after a week of hard training.
First out the water after the 400m pool swim Team Dad's Amy in 6.28, quickly followed by Kate
Laforet in 6.33, Campbell McGregor in 6.47 and Zoe Birchenough (for Team Zoe-Ian-Callan) in 6.51.
Out on to the 9 mile bike course and it wasn't long before Ian Hodge for Team Zoe-Ian-Callan
grabbed the lead aided by a quick T1 for Zoe and Ian. Hot on the heals however the faster bikers Jon Rae
and Alex Elferink. Jon Rae took the lead by La Santa but was quickly overtaken by Alex Elferink on the
climb to Tinajo.
Alex steadily extended his lead to 30 seconds on the climb to the turnaround in Tinajo and continued
to pull away on the decent back to La Santa in the process recording the fastest bike split of the day
28.13.
Second into T2 about 45 seconds down was Jon Rae who set off on the 2.9 mile run at a blistering pace in
pursuit of the leader Alex Elferink. At the turnaround in La Santa Alex's lead was down to 15
seconds as Jon continued to push the pace. The pass was made with 1 mile to go on the return to Club La
Santa and Jon finished in 53.29 recording the 4th fastest run split of the day. Second was Alex
Elferink in 53.55.
Rounding out the top 3 was Angus Beaumont who steadily moved through the field after exiting the
water in 18th place with the 3rd fastest bike and 5th fastest run of the day finishing in 54.42.
