Report
This race takes place on the beautifully scenic island of Achill of the west coast of Ireland. The route runs along open country roads, starting by the sea beside a long blue flag beach on the south coast of the island. There are hilly sections, the toughest of which is a 2 mile climb from a bay on the north coast of the island skirting the bottom of Slieve Mor (Big Mountain). Scenery is magnificent. Marshalling was excellent along the route. Overall organisation of the race was well done and was refreshingly relaxed and easy going. Weather conditions: summer, autumn and spring all in one race; sunny & breezy at first (~18 degC), clouds appeared half wayish, humidity rose, rain pelted, wind rose along the 2nd bay & going up the big hill, but the skies cleared again on the home straight.
Highly recommend this race as a holiday break! Plenty of other outdoor activities to take part in before / afterwards (swimming, surfing, kayaking, cycling, hill walking etc), sheep counting.
