Report
You won't find many marathons harder than this one. With 2,500m of climb it takes a lot of walking and a long time to finish. Even the leaders, who are excellent mountain runners, couldn't quite break 4 hours. But it's definitely worth it for the amazing views of Mt Blanc and the satisfaction of beating the course. It's also very well organised and great value for money at €44 for the marathon, with loads of food and unlimited booze...yes, as much as you want at the pre race buffet, the finish and the post race buffet. Also very easy to get to with cheap flights to Geneva then a direct bus to Chamonix. Highly recommended and very satisfying to finish.
