For the first time, Tring 2 Town was run twice, 2 weeks apart. This is due to high demand as these sorts of events are, to the surprise of saner people, growing in popularity. Many people tried both events although not many first timers to ultras. From my experience 2 weeks is not quite long enough to recover from this distance but it depends on your targets and how fast you want to be.

Having run both races, the second was certainly harder and not just because my legs were still wobbly. The first race had perfect conditions along the canal path with some mud, but generally firm ground. The second was a couple of days after heavy snow and the path was a mixture of mud, puddles and snow. It felt more like a cross country race for large parts and the concrete sections were much welcomed. To add to the difficulty, it was cold and rained for most of the first couple of hours. But that's part of the appeal. If you're going to do an ultra marathon to test yourself mentally and physically then you almost welcome the extra hardships as it makes it more of an achievement. Or perhaps I'm just weird.

I recommend this as a first ultra as it's flat, reasonably pretty and has a great atmosphere with really friendly runners.
