Report

A friendly race (just shy of) 5 miles, half off-road, in a lovely area of the Chilterns, and serving delicious bread pudding cake afterwards. The weather was glorious sunshine, but not too hot, and the ground being solid underfoot.

The first 3.5km heading out of Amersham are very quick, being flat or downhill on tarmac. Then left onto trails and then through ploughed fields which would be very difficult if it were wet. Around the 6km point is a very sharp hill, which for many a fast walk was as quick as trying to run up. The resulting lactic acid in your legs stays with you for the last couple of kilometres which continue with an upward trend until the finish in playing fields.

This race is easy to get to on the Metropolitan line or, if you fancy, a very pleasant bike ride out through Ruislip, Harefield and the Chalfonts. There were quite a number of Sudbury Court runners; where were all the Serpies?
