Report
A humid and overcast morning on the banks of the Thames provided the atmosphere for the large Kingston Running Festival. Many Serpies took part in this annual event where 4 races are run simultaneously- 8 mile,Half Marathon, 16 mile and marathon.
Almost 2000 runners took part altogether in these races and the Serpentine Running Club had much success – especially the Serpentine Women who took prizes in 3 of the 4 events !
The 8 mile race was wom comfortably by Karim Chebouki in 42:33 and Lindsay Mclaren was the first woman to finish (and third over all taking the race right to the line despite the narrow tunnels at the end) in a time of 46:58. The Half –Marathon was won by a newly registered second claim member Huw Lobb even though he initially ran around the finishing tunnel and had to hop over the gates to get in ! In the 16 mile run,Grace Wu was the 3rd woman to finish in 1:57:47.Special mention to Tony Gould who finished 16th overall in a time of 1:48:56.
Finally in the marathon, Sarah Newton was the second woman overall and first vet with a time of 3:16:09 and Hilary Walker was the fifth woman overall and second vet with a time of 3:26:25. Special mention to John Hudspith who was the 13th Finisher in the marathon and 2nd male vet.
