Race conditions
Cold and windy. The race started under lovely blue skies but a temperature of only 1C. By the second lap the sky had clouded over and, although the temperature may have risen to around 4C, it had become decidedly windy in places.
Report
This is one of the best organised races one can run. The train journey is convenient and there is ample parking, with MoD land given over for the purpose. Marshals are numerous, helpful and friendly. Drinks stations offer water and an isotonic drink. One marshal commented that, if they had the permission, they could have had twice the number of participants.
Last year our 20 mile championship was held within the Bramley 20. This year it wasn't possible as the race was a week earlier and so it clashed with the National Cross Country Championships which were held the previous day in Birmingham and thus it also clashed with our Health Weekend. It is theoretically possible to run the Nationals on the Saturday and Bramley on the Sunday, but it is not advisable. But there's always one, isn't there,
Eric?
Running through the beautiful Hampshire countryside was a joy especially on the first lap when the sky was blue and the wind hadn't started and, let's face it, we were fresher and could look around. Although conditions were
not ideal, with many Serpies training hard for London and other Spring marathons, there were many pb's (pr's for our American readership). So congratulations to Simon Barrett, Andy Davies, Anthony Stranger-Jones, Rob
Maslen, Eric Phillips and Lynne Maughan.
