Ideal, windless, cool conditions saw a field of around 20 young runners complete this flat, 1-mile loop course in Victoria Park, in an event staged alongside the increasingly-popular Rainforest Foundation 10k race. This was the second year running that Rory had taken part; last year he came second to a 13-year-old youth; today he ran a perfectly-judged race to finish first, overtaking 2 older runners in the last 400 metres. He also took nearly 50 seconds of his best time for the course. Afterwards he said that he thought that his once-a-fortnight participation in the Greenwich Hill sessions had really increased his strength and speed since last year. The competitors were pleased with their goody bags which included a frisbee, water and energy bars.
