“It’s quite a mouthful; the Corrida Portucale Tranquilidade 10k held in Vilanova da Gaia. Maybe better just to call it the Porto 10k !

This is a well organised medium sized race (727 runners) with a strong local flavour. The Portuguese have always produced strong runners and the turnout for the 6th edition of this event was impressive, although largely male (567 male, 160 female).

The course is a straight out and back, starting among the port warehouses (think Taylor’s, Sandeman, Fonseca) on the south side of the Douro and heading west almost to the Atlantic Ocean. Full marks for scenery. Apparently previous events have included the lower deck of the Dom Luis I bridge which would be spectacular once it fully reopens. The route has quite a few little undulations, none greater than 30 metres in elevation but they add up and you’ll struggle to PB on this course. The leading runners came in around the 33 minute mark. The leading female won it in 43 minutes. A fully masked start with bins to throw away once you’re running and fresh masks at the end, a wheelchair category, very friendly co-runners make this a very enjoyable experience. Flawless organisation and a bib pick up in a 16th century convent! A nice way to round off a perfect weekend in Porto, a beautiful city which is definitely worth visiting”
