Report

The Zagreb marathon also has sister half marathon and 10k races taking place on the same day. With a field of 650 runners in the 10k this was a well organised mid-sized race on a relatively flat almost out and back course with few turns. With a temperature of 8 degrees it made for ideal running conditions and the winning men’s time was a little over 30 minutes. The women’s field was led by 8-time national champion and Olympian marathoner (21st in Tokyo) Martea Parlov Kostro in 33:44, 7th overall. It was nice to know the field was this strong.

I wouldn’t recommend traveling specially to Zagreb for this race as the route is quite dull. Nevertheless the organisation was flawless, its definitely a PB kind of course if that’s what you’re after and the race atmosphere was friendly. Crowd support at the beginning and end and intermittently on the route was great. It’s also the first race I’ve been to where they played AC/DC’s “Thunderstruck” just before the 10-seconds countdown. It did the trick. The field sprinted to the first corner like they’d heard the thunder…
