What attracted me to the Alsterlauf (sponsored by insurance company BARMER) was the beautiful route and the outstanding quality of the field. The route traces the shore of the Alster lake in the centre of Hamburg and is on wide streets with beautiful trees and elegant villas. The lake is never far away. The 3500 runner field is strong every year and this year 7 Kenyans dominated the field with three running sub 29 minutes. The course is flat apart from a small descent after 500 metres and a small incline at km 9. Great PB potential.
