Race report from Charles Pridgeon:

This is a well organised two loop race in the Steglitz area of Berlin. There are two races; the quarter marathon which is a city-wide championship race and the half marathon. The SportScheck formula is run in all the big cities in Germany as a series.

The course is almost flat except for an incline at km 1 and 12. The streets are very wide and overtaking (or being overtaken) is no problem, even though the quarter and half marathon runners start together. Plenty of water and isotonic drink stations. As an extra they had laid on cold water showers you could run through as it was very hot (26 degrees). The final stretch is a dead straight half mile ‘tunnel’ of cheering spectators which is great. Good PB potential but no pacers under 1:45. Quality local field without ‘international’ elite runners. Winning time was 1:04.
