Report

Well done to the 22 athletes who competed last Wednesday. Excellent conditions, some
good performances and a double win for our club.

Women team covered the full programme well - except the not required Pole Vault and
Hammer. Ruth Clifton proved us that she can actually throw a discus with a full
spin, deserving the 2nd place. The 1500 saw a Serpentine trail lead by Marielle
Vestlund followed by Monica Kiraly and Rachel Witthaker (I am sure she was
timekeeping just a moment before). Sara Knox improved her 100 time by over a sec and
also won the long jump by over 3 meters :-) while Alex Openshaw and new entry Kate
Ritchie completed the team doing well in the sprints.

Concerning the Men team, Angus Beaumont really impressed winning the long jump
(5.21mt) and coming 2nd on the pole vault with 2.80mt. Angus and my camera will be
aiming at 3mt next time! Paul Hayman after warming up in the 800 ran a good 3k in
9.24 with a good finale. Ebrima confirms his talent in the steeplechase and the
1500; a solid start of the season for him considering he usually peaks during the
summer. Nick Torry did a good 1500 coming 2nd, while brother Hugh decided to
put a couple of much appreciated fast reps (400, 200) in the middle of
his after-work long run. JT, who keeps saying that he is not at his best, scored
well in the 400 and 200 and that last 200mt chase was fun to watch!

Special mention to Darren Nicholas and his spectacular 100: a good start, a fast and
relaxed middle section and brilliant defending of the 3rd position in the last 20mt.
He then completed his session with a good 200 and 400 as part of his marathon
preparation - or is it the other way round??

Steve Cook, Jaran Finn, Ashok Jamdagni, Andrew Davies and new entry Joachim Onyango
completed the wining team.

Next League match is in Croydon on May the 21st
