Virtual icosathlon

This is a virtual competition over summer for the multi-event competitor. Any result (the best performance if the same event is done more than once) in at least 12 of the events below recorded between 1st April and 30th September will count for the final ranking. There are many chances to compete over the next six months and all our teams will be more than happy to have people willing to give it a go in many events.

We will have two competitions: one with absolute performance and one age-graded (using the IAAF age grading factor for icosathlon competitions — more info available on www.icosathlon.com).

2021 Results

The 2021 virtual Icosathlon was won by David Robinson (men) and Rhiannon Needham (women), who won both the overall and master competitions.

Rules

  • The season runs from 1st April to 30th September (or at the T&F social if before)
  • A minimum of 12 events to count for the final ranking
  • Two rankings will be calculated:
      • an overall ranking, based on senior implements
      • an age graded ranking. (NEW RULE FROM 2018) For those events where weight/height is adjusted for different age groups (i.e. throws and hurdles), the best result in each event across all allowed weight/height for a specific age, will be used. Example: let's say you are a V50 woman and, during the season, you throw both 4kg (senior weight) and 3kg (the correct implement for your age group, V50). Your best throws are, for instance, 25m (4kg) and 23m (3kg): the score for the icosathlon will be taken from your overall best throw, in this case the 4kg one, even though the correct weight for your age is the 3kg one. The same rule applies to all throws and all races involving hurdles.
  • We will have the same events for men and women, apart from 100/110m hurdles and 1500/3000m steeplechase
  • Only points scored competing as Serpentine and recorded on this website will count
  • U20 and below counts as senior for the purpose of the scoring (there is no age grading for them). The age used to calculate graded score is the athlete's age at 31st September of the year of competition (so, for example, if you are born on 20th Ocotber 1978, your 2018 "icosathlon age" is 39; if you are born on 20th September 1978, it is 40).
  • In events where people take part but the performance is too low to record points with the official scoring system, 1 point is given to acknowledge the attempt

Note that this is a virtual competition. You don't need to do 20 events in one meeting... just use the entire season to collect as many points as possible!
