Technical Officials

Serpentine is very proud of all our volunteers who host nearly 30 athletics events each year. Moreover, Serpentine volunteers are very well known for their commitment to the sport and can often be seen volunteering in athletics events all over the UK and beyond. All our annual club events are put together by dedicated volunteers who invest their time, ideas and creativity to benefit the sport.

Some of our volunteers have gone the extra mile and have obtained the officiating licence from our governing bodies: England Athletics (EA) to officiate in EA-licensed events or from British Triathlon (BT) to officiate in BT-licensed events. An Officiating licence is often required when volunteering in Track & Field events and is highly recommended for those who regularly volunteer at endurance or triathlon events. See the officiating qualifications page for England Athletics or British Triathlon to learn what is involved in becoming a licensed Technical Official with either of the governing bodies. The club can provide financial assistance towards the cost of a Technical Official’s licence. Some of our Technical Officials officiate in international events and hold a Technical Official’s licence with the World Athletics, which is a well-recognised licence within and outside of the UK.

Contact the club’s Technical Lead for more information.

Motivation

To pay forward all the support I received when younger, or when I still occassionally compete. Sometimes, you also get the best view in the house of some breathtaking performances. See also What makes officiating so special? - England Athletics

Motivation

I like being an official as it allows me in a small way to give something back to the sport that I participated in. I also like working with many of the other officials who have become friends and also passing on the knowledge I have obtained  to newer officials who want to progress.

It gives you the opportunity to experience the sport from a different perspective and also a way of staying involved if injuries/lack of performance get in the way of competing
