Late September and early October is always a busy period for
club events and I’m on the lookout for some more volunteers.
Clearly, the Serpentine Handicap and the Last Friday 5k have been the top
priorities but I’ve been asked to find some marshals for the Westminster
Primary and Secondary Schools cross country competition that will be held
in Regents Park on Thursday, 6 October and where I hope that some of our
Serpentine juniors will be running. This is a competition Serpentine
has supported since its inception. Would you like to get
for the primary schools races will need to be available between 10.00am and
12.30pm. The secondary schools races take place in the afternoon and
marshals will be needed between 12.30pm and about 3.30pm.
conscious that the races are in the middle of the working
day. However, as well as appealing to those Serpies who have flexible
work arrangements or maybe are not currently working for one reason or
another or retired (when we’re involved in sport, do we ever really
retire?!), I know there are a number of businesses that have "community
support" schemes and it may be that they will be able to release members of
staff for part of the day for a very worthwhile event.
Serpie juniors running in the races will also have a great view of the
races by marshalling.
Please note that the children will all be
supervised by qualified teachers / school staff and therefore there is no
requirement for Serpie volunteers to have had a DBS check.
If you can
help, please can you let me know by Wednesday, 5 October.
Please can you indicate whether:
you can cover only
the morning races
you can cover only the afternoon events (you
would need to arrive by 12.30pm)
