Annual General Meeting – Wednesday 14th Sept

Just a reminder that our next Annual General Meeting will be on Wednesday evening 14th September. This is a chance to have your say, help set the agenda for the upcoming year, and help make your club the best it can be. The details are as follows:

  • Time: 20:00
  • Venue: St Mary’s Church (Little Venice), St Mary’s Square, London W2 1NB (Note: It is NOT St Mary’s, Marylebone)

You are welcome to just show up on the night, but you could put your name down here to let us know you’re coming, so we have an idea about numbers, and also you can ask the committee a question regarding the club’s affairs. Also, we will have a post AGM social at the BrewDog pub in Paddington – please join us for some drinks and nibbles!

London Calling! Preparation for the Marathon

We have these two pre-Marathon events in September:

  • Marathon seminar evening, Wed 7th Sept, 20:00-21:00, Seymour Centre club rooms: Come along and listen to advice from some of our experienced marathon runners and coaches. The topics include what preparation you should do leading up to the marathon, as well as what to expect on the day. All members are welcome to join – whether you’re racing this October or you want to run a marathon one day! No advance sign-up is required to attend, unless attending as a non-member – please email Glenn.
  • Last Half of the London marathon course training run, Sun 18th Sept, 09:00,  Meeting at Tower Hill tube station (Trinity Square entrance), we will run together to help you get familiar with the last half of the marathon course. You can choose what pace you want to run at, and even if you are not running the London marathon you can still come along for a group run. Distance of around 13 miles/21km, with an option to join at Westferry Circus at around 09:25 to run around 10.5 miles/17km. Pace groups: from around 7min/mile (4:20min/km or 3hr marathon) to 9min/mile (5:35min/km or 4hr marathon) pace. If you are interested in leading a pace group then please email Glenn.

10k Club Champs

On Saturday 24th September, our 2022 10k club championship race will be held as part of  the Middlesex 10k, which is one of London’s favourite 10k and will take place for the first time since 2019. As usual, the race will be in Victoria Park as a 3-lap course. Those who are interested in running, please sign up via this link. England Athletics-affiliated runners will only pay £8 to enter (£10 for non-affiliated runners), so don’t miss out on this great opportunity to run a PB!

Autumn Running Courses

Not quite ready to run the 10k club champs yet? Why not join our autumn running courses? We are holding 2 courses, and they are FREE:

  • Beginners’ Course: This course is for non-runners, or those who haven’t yet run 5K. Starting on Sat 17th Sept, you will attend 8 consecutive Saturday morning club runs in Hyde Park (Bandstand – 09:45), with a suggested ‘homework’ run between runs (for example the Wednesday evening club runs).
  • First 10K Course: This course is for those who can run continuously for 5k (it doesn’t matter how fast). Starting on Sat 1st Oct, you’ll go through the next 10 weeks with the following sessions:
    • Monday (19:00): Track session at Paddington Rec
    • Mid-week run ‘homework’ (can be done with the Wed night club runs)
    • Saturday (09:45): Longer run to build distance, generally Club Run in Hyde Park

Please follow this link to sign up for a course. If you don’t know which course is right for you, you are welcome to come to the first Beginners sessions and then transfer to the First 10K sessions.

Note that this course is for both members and non-members (we ask that non-members join us within 3 weeks of starting the course). So if some of you think a friend might be interested to improve their running, why not recommend it to them? Questions? Please email our Club Run lead Catharine.

Post-Club Run Cheese and Wine – Wed 21st Sept

Join us on Wed 21st Sept, after our club runs back at the Seymour Centre club room for some nibbles and drinks (non-alcoholic drinks available too). As now we have resumed using our Seymour bag room on Wednesdays almost a year without restrictions, we thought it would be nice to have a Serpie gathering. Hope to see you there!
