Summer League 2022 – First Race on Sunday 19th June in Harrow

Runner in Hyde Park

First race – Headstone Manor, 5 miles

The race, organised by the Metros Running Club, will take place in Headstone Manor Recreation Ground, Harrow HA2 6JN. The closest tube stations are Harrow & Wealdstone and North Harrow. The race starts at 09:30. Please see the following route map for the five-mile (8km) race:

Following the main event there is a shorter ‘tenderfoot’ (1.5-2km) race suitable mainly for children, but also runners returning from injury and runners who prefer to run a shorter distance. Finally, those who came to the Summer League races before would remember a series of optional, light hearted, age graded, 300-400m relays, again suitable for all ages and abilities.

The Metros will also have a really good cake stand, make sure you stay after the race to enjoy a piece of cake or two!

To come and run…

Note that the race normally does not require advance entry, you just need to show up with your Serpie shirt/vest to run. However, we’d like to collect the entry information in advance, so that we can submit results more easily, and also we can have an idea of numbers and communicate with everyone. Therefore, it would be helpful if you could fill in this form before the race to indicate interest.

In particular, we need someone from our team to be the representative for us in this fixture. The role is very simple – record our runners (names, dates of birth, and finish positions which will be given at the finish). You can also run the race even if you are our rep, although non-running volunteers are welcome too. If you’re happy to help out, please contact Imran.

The rest of the Summer League series

After Headstone Manor, the Summer League will have the following 4 fixtures:

  • Sunday 3rd July – Perivale, 5 miles (8k), organised by Ealing Eagles

  • Sunday 17th July – Dulwich Park, 5 miles (8k), organised by Dulwich Park Runners

  • Sunday 31st July – Regent’s Park, 10k, organised by Mornington Chasers

  • Sunday 21st August – Battersea Park, 10k, organised by us, Serpentine Running Club

Why you should come to the Summer League

A reminder of all the good reasons to take part:

  • The races are of a good standard with runners of all abilities – whether you run 33 mins or 1 hour 20 mins for a 10k, you will enjoy them!
  • Race entries are free for participants – they are paid for by the Club.
  • The races are held in different parks in London – sometimes in those you don’t go to normally.
  • These are very sociable events – normally cakes are available after the run!
  • These races are great for new members to get to know others in the Club.

Volunteers needed for 21st August!

We’d just like to take this opportunity to let you know that we Serpentine will host the last fixture on 21st August in Battersea Park (10k). We will require volunteers to help stage the event. Most of the roles required don’t require any qualifications. The roles include (but do not limit to):

  • 2 x Timekeepers
  • 6 x Marshals
  • 2 x Finish Funnel Stewards (guiding runners into the finish funnel)
  • 2 x Finish Place Handlers (handing out finish position numbers to runners)
  • 2 x Water Station Volunteers
  • 1 x Bag Minder

Available to help on the day? Please let us know by using this form.

Any further questions, please let me know.

Happy Summer Running!
