Serpie Capital Ring Runs: Stage 4 – Earlsfield to Hanwell on Sunday 8th August

Runner in Hyde Park

Stage 4 – Earlsfield to Hanwell on Sunday 8th August

Stage 4 of our adventure starts at Earlsfield Station, we will meet outside of the station at 9:30am. This is because there is no district line to Wimbledon Park. Serpies can still start at Wimbledon Park if they want, just wait for the rest of us to run by! From Earlsfield to Hanwell is about 14 miles (22.5km). This route will take us through sections 6, 7 and half of 8 of the Transport for London schedule. We will run through Wimbledon Park and Common past lakes and a windmill, then onto Richmond Park (see below) where we might see wild deer.

From there it’s along the tow path and across the river towards Syon Park and then along the canal to Brentford. The run continues along the Grand Union Canal to the River Brent and under the Wharncliffe Viaduct (built in 1838 by Isambard Kingdom Brunel). We will end at Hanwell Railway Station.

TfL recommends the Go Jauntly app to help with navigation.

Quick recap: what are the Serpie Capital Ring Runs and can I still join you?

Serpies are welcome to join us for any of the stages. You do not need to have run them all. For anyone who missed the first half, the Ring Runs are a series of Serpentine-organised trail runs around the Capital Ring – a 78-mile route around the suburban greenery of London.

This is an opportunity to explore outer London, socialise with other Serpies and practice those important navigation skills. Running is mainly on long distance footpaths, with plenty of sign posts and never far from public transport. These runs are fun, social events open to all – some choose to run fast, others choose to take it more slowly. If you are able to run 10k in roughly 70 minutes, you should be able to run the majority of it. And even better, we always end up in a pub to celebrate!

Weather is changeable so check the forecast before you set our and come prepared – we will run come rain or shine!

Please note that you need to be a current Serpentine RC member to take part.  Not a member yet but want to run with us?  Join us here

Want to join us for stage 4?

Even though Covid restrictions have lifted, we require you to sign up in advance before coming, so that we can gather contact tracing information. It will also give us an idea about grouping, and allow us to know numbers in order to book a few tables in a pub. Please fill in you details here. In particular, let us know if you are happy to be a ‘group leader’ (who will make sure we don’t lose anyone and also will act as emergency contact), or if you have any specific needs.

Any questions – please email Lindsey Chiswick.

Looking forward to having you join us!
