Wokingham Half Marathon

Marta Bagnati sure is on a roll. Having won the Fred Hughes 10 last month, she finished the Wokingham Half Marathon 3rd woman in 1:19:35. This performance puts her second on the all-time Serpentine women’s list at that distance, and is faster than the club record of 1:20:09 which stood from March 2008 until May last year. Congrats Marta!

Peter Wooldridge led the Serpie men home in 1:15:50, finishing in 44th place. A notable mention also goes to Lee Wilkinson who ran a PB in 1:17:19. Serpentine results.

Surrey County Indoor Championships

Serpentine has two new county champions in its ranks. Ricardo Sutherland (U13) and Jennifer Eduwu (U15) each won 60m golds at the Surrey indoors on Saturday. Ricardo ran 7.86 to qualify and 7.83 in the final (U13B) and Jennifer ran 8.00 to qualify and 7.92 (a PB) in the final. That translates into age-graded performances of 92.2% for the two of them. Jennifer’s time places her second on the all-time Serpentine women’s list over 60m.

Sri Chinmoy (Valentine’s) 10k

Big beautiful Battersea and the cold of dawn relented to rays of brilliant sunshine last Saturday.
And down in the park the start of the 2018 series of Sri Chinmoy racing with 131 runners, raring to go.

Plenty of Serpentine’s gathered at a new start for this traditionally well organised 10k and yes, you guessed it where other than, the band stand, where our Serpentine races also start.

So no surprise to see a fabulous PB (34:21) by third male placing James (in form) Gillanders take the accolades.
With special mentions also going to Jean-Luc Hoez (48:36) and Phil Kelvin (50:27), Men’s and Women’s Vet 60 category winners.

Editor’s note: Big up also to David Sharman for his PB (35:57) and Lloyd Bevan (42:17), returning to racing from injury and providing the race report. Serpentine results.

Multi-sport

Massive congratulations to Clare Freshwater who can proudly call herself an Ironman after completing Challenge Wanaka in New Zealand in 16:35:30. As Clare herself stated in her recent Serpentimes article – anything is possible!

Debbie Clarke meanwhile posted a great performance at the Windsor Duathlon, finishing second woman over the sprint distance in 1:17:59.
