Weekend round-up

QEOP 10k Series
The race saw two top 10 finishes: James McCann ran a PB (34:55) and took bronze, while Lee Wilkinson bagged himself 8th spot in 36:10 (a PB). Sarah Newton had a good race in 49:16 and an age-graded performance of 78.9%, the best of the Serpies on the day. Karen Hancock wasn’t too far off with 77.3% (51:41).

Thames Trot 50M
Runners had to contend with rain and cold, making for very muddy and tough conditions throughout for the 10th edition of this race along the Thames Path National Trail. Matthew Hearne once again acquitted himself admirably, completing the course in 8:48:51 and calling it one of the toughest races he has done in a while.
Blackmore Vale Half Marathon
Innes Wright and Jamie Giles flew the flag for Serpentine in Dorset, finishing in 1:37:01 (33rd) and 1:40:56 respectively. Jamie ran the race in an easyish pace as part of a 30k training run for the London Marathon, for which he has a club place. His take on the race: “Good conditions on this scenic, undulating course run on quiet and well marshalled open roads. Water stops every 2.5 miles, and enthusiastic support at the beginning and end. A very friendly, good value and competitive race where profits are given to local charities. Medals awarded to all entrants and tea and cake available at the village hall afterwards. Free parking and lavatories available but both somewhat limited so early arrival recommended.”
Watford Half Marathon
Ten Serpies took on this undulating course, with start and finish in Cassiobury Park, on a cold and blustery day. Victor Lio was fastest Serpie in 1:21:37 (57th), with Serdar Çetin not far behind in 1:22:47 (68th). Susan Edwards achieved the best age-graded result with 75.4% (1:53:17). On a slightly different note: Winner Paul Martelletti (VPHTHAC) put the lack of red and yellow at this local race down to Serpies tapering for the final Met League fixture this Saturday.
Ironman 70.3 Dubai
Paul Pulze was sole Serpentine representative, completing the course in 5:03:13 (34:24 / 2:32:26 / 1:45:48), 75th in his category and 367th overall.
