Sunday League in Watford on 7 December – race details

Runner in Hyde Park

The race

The race will start and finish at 10:30am near Shepherds Way entrance in Cassiobury Park, near the Cha restaurant. The course (about 5.7 miles) will be the same as previous years without the final run up the park to finish. We will run out to Whippendell Wood. From the bottom of a steep hill the runners will start their 2 laps of the woods. On completion of the second lap the runners will head back up the hill and return to the finish – the reverse of the outward leg.

It will be muddy! Trail shoes and studs should be enough, and please note that there are bridge crossings to be made, out and back, making spike wearing interesting.

Please also note that major plant has been in operation in the wood so some of the wheel tracks are very wide and deep.

Watford Joggers anticipate a shelter being erected near the finish as an unsupervised baggage area.

All entries are taken on the day. However, if you intend to run, it would be helpful if you could add your name to the Serpie planner so we have an idea of how many people are planning to be there. Also, please wear a Serpie top.

How to get there

The start/finish in the park is ideally placed for travel on the Metropolitan Underground Line, with Watford Junction 1.3 miles away.

There is ample street parking near the park, access from Hempstead Road.

There is very limited parking at West Herts Sports Club, 8 Park Avenue, Watford, WD18 7HP.

Toilets, showers etc

Toilets are available for the men in the football changing facility near the entrance to the park from Shepherds Road. Ladies only please, can use the toilets at The Cha. There are more toilets, mens and ladies, at the bottom of the park near the paddling pool – ideal for those warming up or looking at the course.

Mens and ladies toilets are available at West Herts Sports Club.

Hot food is available in the members bar at West Herts Sports Club after the run. There will be access to a few showers but not enough for all!
