Another great Welsh Castles Relay weekend

Once again our women’s team dominated the leader-board, winning the 20 stage race from Caernarfon to Cardiff for the 9th time in 11 years despite some excellent competition from other women’s teams on individual stages.
The men’s race proved to be a very close race in the end. Salford Harriers looked like they were running away with victory after the first few stages but as the race progressed the gaps between Salford, Les Croupiers and our team got closer and closer. In the end, Salford won, with Les Croupiers second and our men in third.
Our vets team performed well on every stage but couldn’t match the speed of a couple of the other teams and finished 6th vets team (from 8) and 39th overall (from 65).
In the competition for Kings, Queens and Monarchs of the Mountains — for the fastest teams over the six mountain stages — we had some individual success with Glenn Hughes (stage 7), Simon Barrett (stage 11), Andy Greenleaf (stage 14) and Sarah Pemberton (stage 14) all winning their stages but in the team race Salford narrowly beat our men (by 57 seconds!) and Sale Harriers just beat our women (by 5:56). Our vets came 5th in the Monarchs.

A huge thank you to Liz Wynn and Paul Fromme for organising everything over the weekend (a massive task!) and to all the drivers who made it happen. Also to Simon Barrett, Sarah Pemberton and Lars Olsen our team captains.
We’ll be back next year for sure!
