Some great results at the southern 12 and 6 stage road relays

For the first time in the club’s history we took three complete men’s teams to the southern 12 stage relays. With 2 and bit women’s teams also competing for the club we were the largest contingent camped out at the track in Milton Keynes. Once the racing got under-way you couldn’t go far on the course without seeing our red and gold with team members jogging round the course to warm up, cool down or just add longer mileage to their day after racing.
The quality of the racing was very high with several male and female international GB athletes competing. There are too many names to mention with 50 Serpies racing so in summary:
- Men’s A team: 5th (best ever place) in 4:07:30 (best ever time)
- Men’s B team: 20th (best ever place) in 4:27:55 (best ever time)
- Men’s C team: 35th in 4:46:42 (first C team)
- Women’s A team: 9th in 1:57:58 (best ever time)
- Women’s B team: 14th in 2:02:02 (best ever time)
- Fastest man (long stage 7.66k): Nick Torry in 23:20 (new club record)
- Fastest man (short stage 5.05k): Glen Hughes in 15:59 (new club record)
- Fastest woman: Victoria Crawford in 18:04 (new club record)
- First B team for both men and women (women’s B team pictured)
Our top two men’s teams both qualified for the national 12 & 6 stage relays which will be held in Sutton Park on 5th April. We’ll have at least two women’s teams competing as well.
