Met League 2nd fixture of the season – report

The turnout was good, with 33 women and 49 men finishing the course – almost identical numbers to those running at Claybury a month earlier. Both of our A teams finished in 4th place on Saturday, which was good enough to maintain their 1st and 2nd positions overall, but the gaps to other teams are narrowing – the Serpie women now lead Highgate by a slim 3 points.
The women’s event was won by Shaftesbury Barnet, with Highgate in 2nd and Woodford Green with Essex Ladies in 3rd, just 8 points ahead of the Serpie women. In the men’s race, Highgate were the winners with Woodford Green in 2nd and Newham & Essex Beagles 3rd.
The other Serpie team finishing positions were:
- Women’s B team 7th (Div 1)
- Women’s C team 10th (Div 1)
- Women’s vets’ A team 4th (Div 1)
- Women’s vets’ B team joint 6th (Div 1)
- Women’s vets’ C team 2nd(Div 2)
- Men’s B team 2nd(Div 2)
- Men’s C team 8th(Div 2)
- Men’s vets’ A team 4th(Div 1)
- Men’s vets’ B team 4th(Div 2)

Many thanks to Sally Hodge, Bev Thomas, Emily Murphy and Lisa Pettit for their help in registering runners and recording finishers.
The next Met League fixture will be at the notoriously muddy Alexandra Palace on the Saturday before Christmas – 21st December. A good Serpie turnout will be key to keeping the men in contention and the women in top slot.
