Runner in Hyde Park

The first weekend in March is a busy one. On Saturday 1 March begins there’s the March club handicap in Hyde Park; the Ballbuster duathlon, which always attracts a few hardy Serpies; and one last chance to get muddy at the Middlesex Vets cross country championship at Wormwood Scrubs. Sunday 2 March will see several half marathons taking place and there are bound to be sizeable Serpie groups running the Bath half marathon, Silverstone half marathonBerkhamsted half marathon, but the largest Serpie turnout will probably be the Reading half marathon, which has 54 Serpies signed up on My Events.

a select group of Serpies ran the Pilgrims Challenge event – 66 miles over 2 days – and 37 Serpies completed the Watford half marathon.

On Saturday 8 February, it’s the last Met League cross country of this season at Wormwood Scrubs. We need as many runners as possible to turn out for Serpentine to consolidate our 2nd places in the league for both men’s and women’s teams. The club are also joint hosts (with Thames Valley Harriers) so we need a few people to offer to marshal. Please contact races@serpentine.org.uk if you can help. On the same day, the Serpie trail group will be doing an out-and-back run along the disused railway trail from East Grinstead. On Sunday 9 February it looks like there should be a decent Serpie turnout at the Wokingham half marathon.

Fryent Park on Saturday 15 February is the venue for the 2nd part of the North of the Thames cross country championships. The Bramley 20 (and 10) are always popular pre-London marathon races and there are bound to be a large number of Serpies running on Sunday 16 February. On the same day, there’s the Dash for the Splash 10k cross country race on Wimbledon Common and also the final Sunday League cross country of the season in Cassiobury Park, Watford. For the trail runners amongst you, there’s the chance for another out-and-back trail run amid the rolling hills and expansive views of the South Downs.

On Saturday 22 February there will be a huge Serpie turnout at the National cross country championships in Nottingham. For those remaining in London, there’s a February Meal of the Month with a difference – a trip to watch ice hockey in Streatham. The final Sunday of February will see several Serpies running the Old Deer Park Richmond Half Marathon.

The month ends with the Last Friday of the Month 5k on Friday 28 February.

There’s more information about lots of these events on the Serpie events planner.
