Run in central London with legendary ultra-runner Scott Jurek this Saturday morning, sponsored by Brooks

Runner in Hyde Park

We’re very pleased to say Brooks have organised a fun run around central London with him bright and early on Saturday morning, and Serpentine members have the chance to join in.

The run will be starting at 7.45am from Hyde Park Corner next to Wellington Arch, and we will be opening the club room for Serpentine members’ bags from shortly after 7am. We will then lock the club room and leave the Seymour at 7.20am.

The 6 mile run along the Thames will be at “conversational pace”, which given who he is will probably be around 8-9 minute mile pace.

We’ll be back at Hyde Park Corner by 8.45am so probably just in time to enter the handicap!

After the run Scott will be coming to the Serpentine Bar and Kitchen to chat to people, so handicappers should also be able to catch him after their morning efforts, be that running or helping out.

Please note this is an event organised by Brooks which we are getting to join in on. James Edgar will be looking after things for Serpentine members on the day so if you have any questions then contact him on jedgar262@gmail.com.

More info about Scott

Scott Jurek’s outstanding competitive resume includes victories in nearly all of ultrarunning’s elite trail and road events, including the historic 153-mile Spartathlon, the Hardrock 100, the Badwater 135-mile Ultramarathon, the Miwok 100K, and – his signature race – the Western States 100 Mile Endurance Run, which he won a record seven straight times. The Washington Times named him one
of the top runners of the decade, Runner’s World awarded him a Hero of Running and Ultrarunning Magazine named him Ultra-Runner of the Year three times.

In 2010, he set a new US all-surface record in the 24-Hour Run with 165.7 miles – 6.5 marathons in one day.

More than just a champion, Scott is a true student and ambassador of the sport, known to stay at finish lines cheering until the last runner crosses. A passionate advocate for vegetarianism, he follows a 100% plant-based diet, which he credits for his superior endurance, recovery and overall health. He believes that everyone can run an ultra and everyone can access their body’s innate
capacity to heal. Through writing, public speaking, and consulting, Scott takes joy in encouraging people of all fitness levels to take the next step toward vibrant health.

FAQ

We’ve been getting a few questions about the run with Scott Jurek we advertised on Wednesday and thought it worth sharing the answers.

Fee

There is no fee for this run and no need to sign up, however it would be helpful if you sign up on the Events Planner so we can gauge numbers.

Bag drop off and collection

We will set off from the front steps of the Seymour Centre at 7.20am. To collect bags afterwards you will have an option to go straight from the end of the run to the Seymour, where Sid Wills will have the club room open until 9.30am, or to collect them between 10.45am-11.30am, when we will open the clubroom again.

The run itself is open to all so you may invite others (non Serpies), but the bag drop at the Seymour Centre will be available for club members only.

Kit

Serpie kit is optional.

Is 7.45am too early for you?

Lastly, the handicap still needs helpers, so if 7.45am is too early for you to run on a Saturday, then please offer to help at the handicap which will mean you’ll still get a chance to talk to Scott afterwards over tea and cake.

Any more questions, send them James Edgar’s way at jedgar262@gmail.com
