October highlights

Runner in Hyde Park

On Wednesday 2 October the 2013 Track & Field End of Season Social will be held at the Temperance pub near to the Seymour Centre to celebrate this season’s achievements and announce the 2013 award winners.

The October handicap will be on Saturday 5 October in Hyde Park and on Sunday 6 October it’s the last multi-sport club championship of the year – the London Fields Aquathlon. On the same day there are lots of Serpies signed up to run the Royal Parks Foundation half marathon plus others running the Cardiff half marathon, which is the penultimate race in the runbritain Grand Prix series. There will also be a novice-friendly social trail run of 11 miles (suitable for anyone who can run the Three Parks) on the forest trails of Ashridge Park.

On Saturday 12 October there will be several Serpie women’s teams plus our men’s A team representing the club at the ERRA 4 and 6 stage national road relays in Sutton Park. The End of Season Triathlon Social is on the evening of Saturday 12 October in The Three Lords pub in the City. On Sunday 13 October a number of Serpies will be racing the Chicago marathon, the off-road Greensand marathon, the Oxford half marathon and various distances at the Kingston Run Challenge.

Saturday 19 October is the date for the first Metropolitan League cross country of the season at Claybury in East London. Based on last season’s turnouts, there should be well over 100 Serpies running and we hope to see many of our new juniors joining in too this season. On Sunday 20 October, it’s the club’s 10-mile championship – the Cabbage Patch 10 – while on the same day it’s ‘A’ time for marathons with a large group of Serpies running the Amsterdam marathon and a slightly smaller group running the Abingdon marathon.

The last weekend in October has two Serpie-organised races – the regular Last Friday of the Month 5k is on Friday 25 October and on Sunday 27 October it’s the annual Jekyll & Hyde Park Hallowe’en duathlon. We’ll need lots of helpers to be able to put these great events on – many thanks to all who have already signed up. Saturday 26 October will see a few intrepid Serpies running the Beachy Head marathon, whilst the following day there are Serpies running the Frankfurt marathon and Great South Run plus it’s the first Sunday league cross country race of this season in Cheshunt. Finally, on Monday 28 October there’s the Dublin marathon.

There’s more information about lots of these events on the Serpie events planner.
