Runner in Hyde Park

On Sunday 1 September the Serpie women’s vets team will be competing at the Southern Vets Track & Field League final in Ashford. There are also several Serpies racing at the ETU European Long Distance Triathlon Championships in Vichy on the same day.

On Wednesday 4 September, at 8pm, it will be the club’s AGM in the Carisbrooke Hall at the Victory Services Club, 63/79 Seymour Street, London W2 2HF. The Wednesday night club runs will leave slightly earlier than usual, at 6.30pm, and the bag room will close at 7.45pm to allow people time to get to the meeting. We hope to see lots of you there having a say in the running of your club!

On Thursday 5 September it’s the last Assembly League race of the season in Beckenham. This is a 5k race starting at 7.00pm and presentations of the season’s awards will be made in the club house after the race. Assembly League races are open to all Serpies, with no need to enter in advance.

The club championship 10k is the Middlesex 10k in Victoria Park, Hackney, which is on Saturday 7 September and also incorporates the Middlesex County 10k Road Championship – there are no entries on the day. On Sunday 8 September a number of Serpies will be racing the Eridge Park Trail 10-mile and the Run to the Beat and Maidenhead half marathons. A group of Serpie trail running enthusiasts will be heading to the White Cliffs Challenge on the same day for a choice of 15 or 30 mile routes.

On Wednesday 11 September there’s a launch party for the Serpie Lanzarote 2014 trip to give members the chance to find out more about next year’s trip. Please sign up on the Planner if you are going to attend.

The weekend of 14 & 15 September will be a packed one. A large group of Serpies will be off to the Isle of Wight for the Southern Fell Racing Championships. Over the past few years the club has enjoyed considerable success in both the individual and team competitions so here’s hoping that some of the trophies will be coming back to London. The same weekend will see many of our Serpentine triathletes competing in Hyde Park in the ITU World Olympic Triathlon Championships, which will be a great event for spectators as well as those competing. The London duathlon, Bristol half marathon and Great North Run are also on Sunday 15 September, as is the new Ickenham 5-mile plus a marshalled and supported 20-mile training run organised by Ealing Eagles: the Eagles Twenty.

On 15 September sign up will open for a new weekly coached swim session. This freestyle yardage session will be held at 9am on Saturday mornings at Orchard Lisle Pool, starting on 21 September.

Over the weekend of 21 & 22 September there will be several Serpie teams representing the club at the SEAA autumn road relays in Aldershot. The women race a 4-stage course on Saturday and the men race over a 6-stage course (4-stage for the male vets) on Sunday. And for experienced ultra runners, it’s the Sussex Stride on Saturday 21 September, a 51-mile event starting from near to Brighton.

Autumn marathon season begins properly on Sunday 29 September, with the Berlin marathon. On the same day, there’s also the Barns Green half marathon, Ealing half marathon and Windsor half marathon.

Just into October, the end of season Track & Field social will be held on Wednesday 2 October. Everyone who competed, officiated and helped out during the season is very welcome to attend.

There’s more information about lots of these events on the Serpie events planner.
