Club 3000m and Grand Prix Winners

The staff at Paddington did a much better job of managing the track last night than they did at the 1 mile races two weeks ago, and we had a clear track for the whole evening. This was just as well since with 70 Serpies registering to race we needed four heats.
After two men’s heats, the women’s race got underway and Andrea soon became the clear leader, a place she kept for the full 7.5 laps, winning the race in 9:59.8 with Vic Crawford second in 10:22.4
In the men’s race, the leading group of about ten men stuck together until about 500m to go when they all started racing for the finish. Nick pulled ahead but Jonathan Poole was never far behind. Nick won in 8:35.4 with Jonathan 2nd in 8:39.3. Nick also won the age-graded award with 87.7%
This was the final race of the summer grand prix, our annual “championship within a championship” comprising the 1k & 5k on road and the 1 mile & 3000m on track. The overall winners are the man and woman with the best score over the four races, where the score for each race is calculated as a percentage of the winners time vs their time. There is also an age-graded award for the runner with the highest average age-grading over the four races.
The 2013 grand prix winners are Hugh Torry (380.59pts), Helen Palmer (381.42pts) and Andrew Reeves (85.6%).
The next race in the club championship is the Middlesex & Open 10k in Victoria Park on 7th September. Race details including how to enter are in this news story.
Thanks to everyone who helped make these races happen.
