The Paddington track plays an important part in the history of athletics.  This is the track that Sir Roger Bannister trained on in preparation for becoming the first man to break the 4 minute mile barrier while working at the nearby St Marys Hospital. The track reopened in September 2012 after a full refurbishment and now boasts a new 6-lane synthetic surface.  Now it’s your turn race at this historic venue!

It doesn’t matter if you haven’t done any of the other Grand Prix races as you’re welcome to run in this event as a one off.

Please sign up on the My Events planner if you intend to run to help us plan the race groups – www.serpentine.org.uk/events/planner.php

There will be several 3000m races.  These will be graded on your ability. Please have a think about what time you can run 3000m in. Having graded races means that you will be able to race against people of similar ability, so whether you are running at sub-5 minute mile pace or plus 10 minutes there will be a race that’s right for you!

If you aren’t running but would like to spectate and support, there’s a small open stand.  I need four people to help on the night recording the finishers numbers, so if you’re coming along and would like to help please let me, Malcolm French, know (MalcolmFrench1962@yahoo.com) – it’s a fun evening and an easy way to help the club out.

If you’ve not been to Paddington Recreation Ground before, you’ll find a map and travel info on http://serpentine.org.uk/pages/location_paddington.html  The track is only 5 minutes walk from Maida Vale tube station. Changing facilities are available at the track.

Thanks for your support of the 2013 Grand Prix Series and I look forward to seeing lots of you on Tuesday, 9 July.
